Mr. Sargent's Classes
Instructor: Mr. Sargent
I hope the students had a great long weekend!

I will update this website weekly to keep you informed of the material being covered.á Please feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or concerns.

In grade 6 math, we have begun the year with a unit on the division of fractions. áThe unit explores division models in depth to help make sense of the basic algorithm (copy-dot-flip).

This week we will work to explore, using a variety of methods, how to determine the LCM and GCF of numbers.

In grade 6 science, we have began the year by exploring the classification of organisms. áThe unit detailed how and why individual living things are grouped.

We have now begun our second unit of study, which involves the study of cells.

Students will be given the opportunity toábring a snack from home to eatáeach day at approximately 9:30.á I do my best to provide snacks for those students without, but any help you could offer in providing healthy snacks for students (i.e. animal crackers, pretzels, etc.) would be welcomed and greatly appreciated!

Please contact me at school via email (ssargent@heuvelton.k12.ny.us) or phone (344-2414, ext. 28 034) at your convenience if you have any questions or concerns.á Take care!

Additional Websites
Here are some additional websites that may be of assistance in helping your 6th grader at home!
MATH WEBSITE
The students in grade 6 have been introduced to a website that offers them a chance to practice their math skills while having fun!  The site is called www.sumdog.com, and each student has a password that allows them to compete against other students or themselves and earn points while doing it.  Please ask your child to show you the website, and encouraging them to use it for a few minutes each day would be greatly appreciated!
HOMEWORK POLICY
Students that do not have their assignments completed at the time they are due will receive a 0% for a grade. However, students may (and should) turn in any late assignments and will receive a grade with a 10 point deduction.  Please contact me if you have any questions regarding this policy.
